Job description:
Under general supervision, performs corrective and preventative maintenance tasks on equipment and facilities used in water pumping stations, sewage lift stations, and wastewater treatment plants.

Examples of Duties:
1. Performs corrective maintenance tasks on equipment associated with the operation of a wastewater treatment plant, sewage lift stations and water pumping stations to include pumps, valves, electric motors, compressors, blowers, fans, electrical switch gear, and controls systems.
2. Performs preventative maintenance tasks on equipment, as specified by equipment manufacturers, to include oil changing, greasing, fluids reservoir checks, adjusting belts and chains, adjusting alignment of couplings and mountings, and cleaning filters and screens.
3. Assists in maintaining an equipment maintenance history by recording equipment run times, documenting replacement parts used for repairs, noting any observed signs of wear, and noting any noise or vibration that may occur while the equipment is operating.
4. Identifies and investigates causes of equipment failures by using specialty equipment, instruments and tools to include volt/ohm meters, megohm meters, signal generators, vibration analysis equipment, thermometers.
5. Cleans and inspects equipment and machines for proper operation on a routine and scheduled basis.
6. Applies protective coatings (paint, etc.) to outdoor and indoor equipment by preparing surfaces according to coating specifications, and applying the appropriate type and amount of coating in a manner consistent with coating labeling.
7. Responsible for maintaining a clean and efficient repair shop by organizing, storing, and cleaning tools and supplies used in equipment repair.
8. Operates various light to heavy construction equipment and tools to include tractors, backhoes, dump trucks, jack hammers, air compressors, trenchers, earth compactors, weed trimmers, mowers, vehicles, and other pneumatic, electrical or hydraulic powered hand tools.
9. Assists in the general housekeeping of building interiors, building exteriors, treatment tanks and other items as needed.
10. Informs supervisor of all problems, deviations, hazards, unfamiliar situations and all work activities.
11. Assists with other special projects and tasks as directed.
12. Adheres to personnel, safety, and department policies and procedures.
13. Assists other coworkers as needed.
14. Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements


Education, training, experience:
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is required. At least one year of related equipment maintenance experience is required. Wastewater treatment plant operation experience is preferred. Must be able to obtain a Class C Wastewater Operator's Certificate issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) within 18 months of placement. Must have a valid Texas Driver's License and driving record must be in compliance with Town policy.

Must have a working knowledge of pumps, compressors, blowers, conveyors and other types of production equipment. Specific knowledge with wastewater treatment plant, sewage lift station and high service water pumping station operation and maintenance functions is preferred. Must have skills in diagnosing mechanical and electrical failures by using specialty measuring instruments such as volt/ohm meters, megohmmeters, and ammeters. Must be familiar with the basic principles of operations for different electric motor types, their associated electrical switch gear and related control systems. Skills in operating heavy to light construction equipment and in using small power tools and equipment in a safe and proper manner. To perform the essential functions of the job, must be able to talk, read, see, walk, and hear; have good hand/foot/eye coordination to operate and repair equipment and vehicles; follow oral and written directives; perform strenuous physical activities to include, exerting up to 100 lbs of pressure, lift push, pull, and carry heavy supplies and equipment several times a day; able to shovel, crawl, bend, kneel, dig holes for several hours per day, climb on and off equipment, operate vibrating equipment, work indoors, underground, outdoors, in confined spaces, in pipes, culverts, manholes and trenches, on level, slippery, sloping, unstable and muddy terrain, and under constantly noisy conditions; and work in adverse environmental conditions to include inclement weather and hazardous conditions including mechanical, electrical, fume odor, dust/mist, chemical, and toxic waste hazards and other solid waste substances and exposure to insects, etc. Able to maintain an effective and pleasant working relationship with employees, contractors, and the general public. Must be able to work extensive hours, or various work shifts as needed.
