Job description:
Perform duties to include maintenance, operation, installation, and testing of electrical and electronic equipment in electrical substations, electrical transmission systems, and electrical distribution systems.

Principle Job Duties

1. Install, operate, maintain, and diagnose problems with substation distribution or transmission equipment and protective relays.
2. Demonstrate knowledge of tools, equipment, and operational details required to properly accomplish the duties associated with this position.
3. Troubleshoot and analyze system failures, insulation viability, contact resistance and wear, and other tests as required.
4. Operate and maintain pump equipment for insulating oil transfer, sampling, and testing.
5. Perform high voltage switching operations in planned and emergency situations.
6. Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
7. Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements


Education, training, experience:
Required: High School Diploma or G.E.D., and two (2) years technical training with electrical transmission and distribution equipment; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Knowledge of calculus, trigonometry, and algebra. Knowledge of electrical theory and electrical/electronic schematics. Knowledge in operation, maintenance, and repair of large DC battery systems. Knowledge of industry testing standards and procedures. Knowledge of emergency generators and UPS systems. Advanced computer application skills. Available for on-call duty and reside within 30 minute emergency response time. Good verbal communication skills. Ability and willingness to work in adverse conditions. Ability to perform most duties without direct supervision, relying on previous experience to properly diagnose problems.

Preferred: Associates Degree in Electrical Power Distribution
