Job description:
To perform a variety of technical building inspection duties in order to enforce compliance with building codes, regulations and ordinances including the adopted Building, Electrical, Plumbing and Mechanical Codes and City Zoning Codes; to provide information and assistance to developers, contractors and the general public; to resolve issues relating to Building Code compliance; issue notices for non-compliance; document actions; maintain files and reports for possible legal actions; and to perform a variety of technical tasks in assigned area of responsibility.

Job Requirements


Education, training, experience:
High School Diploma or GED Certificate, supplemented by specialized training in the building trades and/or code enforcement PLUS two (2) years of increasingly responsible inspection experience in multiple codes required. Valid State of Texas Driver’s License required. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access skills preferred. Extensive telephone and public contact customer service skills required. City vehicle provided.

Please note: Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge will be considered. Experience need not be in government service. Preference will be given for higher levels of experience, education, and certification.

Possession of a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record required.

Successful applicant will be required to obtain an ICC Commercial Energy Inspector Certification within the first six (6) months of employment.
