Job description:
The Police Service Tech, (PST) is assigned to the Support Services Bureau. The PST supports police operations by serving as a property room, crime scene, and holding facility specialist.

The PST performs manual and clerical work in the receipt, storage, and release of found, stolen, confiscated property, and evidence that has been impounded by police department or other law enforcement agencies. Duties include storage, filing and transfer of any and all impounded property or evidence. This employee assists the police department in the inventory and control of property, equipment, and supplies.

The PST assists the Criminal Investigation Division and Patrol in processing evidence on the scene of a crime or in the CID evidence crime lab. The position requires that the employee shall be available and on-call except when on authorized leave. The position requires the employee to respond to crime scene call-outs within one hour.

The PST assists in the operation of the holding facility by performing detainee intake, release, visitations, arraignments, interviews and other detention related tasks.

Job Requirements


Education, training, experience:
Minimum requirements:

• High school graduate.
• Must be certified as a less than full access TCIC/NCIC operator by the end of a one year probationary period.
• Must acquire basic IAI Crime Scene Investigator certification after one year experience in crime scene related activities and completion of 48 hours of CSC board approved instruction in crime scene related courses.
• Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record.
• Must pass a police applicant background investigation including a “post-offer” drug/alcohol screen and physical exam.
• Must pass a city typing test.
• Must have a clear and acceptable criminal history.
• Must meet all local and federal government requirements for hiring.
• Employee is required to maintain the credibility and ability to testify in a court of law.

Desired experience and training:

• Three years of experience in warehouse and inventory control, preferably in a police setting. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the desired requirements may be substituted.
