Job description:
The Dallas City Attorney’s Office seeks a legal assistant for the General Litigation Section to perform duties as assigned but primarily to assist attorneys in all aspects of civil litigation including state and federal litigation and administrative proceedings subjects such as civil rights, contract, environment, zoning and other land use, eminent domain and regulatory takings, taxation, collections, bankruptcy and creditors’ rights, public utilities rates and regulation, municipal franchises, open records, open meetings, and other state law issues, and municipal code enforcement and defense. In addition, the successful candidate may be required to assist attorneys in criminal and other sensitive investigations.
The successful candidate would assist Assistant City Attorneys with the details of all aspects of legal work with an emphasis on civil litigation, including, under attorney supervision, the preparation of correspondence, the coordination of legal hold of paper and electronic records, and preparation of pleadings, discovery requests and responses, motions, and briefs at pretrial, trial, and appellate stages, and the conduct of interviews, depositions, hearings, trials, and appeals.

Job Requirements

Education, training, experience:
Job Requirements
Substantial experience in pre-trial and trial phases of civil litigation as a paralegal in courts or administrative proceedings, the ability to maintain confidentiality, highest ethical standards, excellent personal and telephone communication skills, fluency and written and spoken English, organizational ability, legal and public records research experience, and proficiency in Word and Excel are required. Substantial experience in in Texas federal and state courts and Texas state and federal administrative agency contested matters, researching law and public records, working closely with clients and other witnesses, and proficiency with Powerpoint, Trial Director, CT Summation, Clearwell, Westlaw, Lexis, PACER, ECF, and Texas state court e-filing preferred.

High school diploma or equivalent required. College or community college credits in subjects related to job description and paralegal certification preferred. Fluency in a language in addition to English would be a positive factor.
