SUPERVISION General supervision is provided by the Public Works Director. No supervision or budgetary responsibilities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES •Operates equipment in the construction, maintenance, and repair of water meters. •Installs water meters. •Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment. •Performs minor jobs using manual and electric tools. •Cleans and stocks truck with water meter supplies. •Loads and unloads various materials. •Able to perform manual labor, with walking continuous for long periods in all weather conditions. •Performs all other duties as assigned or required. SKILLS KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES •Skill in the operation of reading all water meters, re-reads, connects, disconnects, replacing meters, replacing meter boxes, installing new water metering system. •Skill in preventive and minor maintenance of water meters and equipment •Skill in operating necessary equipment and using hand tools to perform manual labor task. •Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of a variety of equipment used in water meter construction and repair. •Ability to identify and correct potential safety hazards •Ability to read and write with little or no errors •Ability to manipulate things with the hands •Ability to follow oral and written directions •Knowledge of preventative and minor maintenance repair on tools and equipment •Knowledge of routine construction maintenance and repair methods PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES Must be physically able to regularly lift objects approximately 50 to 80 pounds. Work is primarily performed outdoors in varying weather conditions. Must be able to work on your feet for a continuous eight hour shift in both indoor and outdoor locations. Job Requirements Education, training, experience: MINIMUM EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS •High school graduate or GED. •Minimum of six months experience in meter reading with extended knowledge of water meters or similar/same as assigned to this position preferred. •Must pass criminal background check and drug screen. •Must be able to obtain Class D Water license from T.C.E.Q. within one year of hire. •Valid Texas driver’s license Do you know someone who would be interested in this job?   Tell them about it.
