Job description:
Position Overview
Provides technical support for the Public Services Department relating to GIS, GPS, enterprise databases, and other department-specific software. Performs quality control checks to ensure integrity of all infrastructure information contained in GIS and the City’s Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) databases. Troubleshoots problems, provides technical support, and conducts individual training in cooperation and coordination with the Technology Services group as directed. Monitors adherence to procedures and standards for information data entry to the CMMS and GIS. Conducts, analysis, authors reports, and updates tabular and spatial data. Reports to the Public Services Technology Project Manager.


Job Duties
•Performs system maintenance. Develops standard procedures to create and maintain integrity of Public Services GIS and CMMS databases to include infrastructure information on electric and water/wastewater utilities and transportation, as well as all related equipment and parts.

•Works with user groups and IT staff to identify and resolve hardware and software problems. Performs research for appropriate database information and troubleshoots CMMS and GIS data information and software applications. Reviews and recommends software and hardware products for future use.

•Monitors the accuracy of all Public Services database information. Monitors and audits the database by running quality control and quality assurance tests in a scheduled manner. Compares randomly selected hard copy records against data files, produces recurring purge reports; etc. Provides training to Public Services employees. Monitors and supports designated personnel in data entry and maintenance of CMMS and other database applications. Maintains or assists in maintaining Public Services Utility and Transportation related GIS data.

•Ability to implement GIS and CMMS application projects. Ability to read and interpret surveys legal descriptions, cartography, engineering documents, constructions plans and aerial orthophotography. Ability to produce maps and other representations of spatial data and knowledge of principles and practices of mapping, coordinate systems, projections and scale.

•Creates simple scripts and/or models and produces special graphic layouts, combining various data form sources to produce complex plots using GIS Software Prepares detailed reports for Public Services special projects. Establishes commonly requested report templates for recurring reports. Utilizes electronic graphics designs system components such as laser printers, scanners, cameras, modems, disk drives, etc. Makes presentations utilizing electronic graphics.

•Miscellaneous:
•Performs site review at project locations as needed.
•Assists in answering customer queries, data requests and providing customer support.
•Orders and maintains computer supplies.
•Attends technical training sessions.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
•Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
•Required Experience:
•Minimum two (2) years of experience using ESRI ArcGIS software is required.
•Minimum two (2) years of experience working with relational database software is required.
•Minimum two (2) years experience working with computers and office software (Microsoft Office Suite).
•An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the duties of the job may be considered.
•Valid Texas Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record is required.

Preferred Qualifications
•ESRI ArcGIS desktop, SDE, and Server software (version 10 or higher) experience.
•Knowledge of ArcGIS geomedtric networks for electric distribution.
•IBM Maximo Asset Management software (version 6.x or higher) experience.
•Knowledge of CAD systems, especially AutoCAD.
•Report-writing experience (Crystal Reports/BIRT).
