Job description:
Summary
Responsible for providing professional reference, information, reader’s advisory and programming services to library patrons. Also responsible for assisting library users with library technologies and online resources & technologies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1) Provide professional research assistance and reader’s advice to library users.
2) Provide assistance with online resources and the Internet to a large number of computer users.
3) Resolve patron problems and interpret policies.
4) Carry out special project assignments.
5) Perform basic hardware and software troubleshooting.
6) Conduct instructional classes on technology, the Internet and the library’s online resources; develop and present programs of popular interest to the public.
7) Stay current on new resources through continuing education, professional journals and training.

Preferred Qualifications
Education/ Experience:
One or more of the following are preferred qualifications for this position:
• 1-3 years of recent professional public library experience
• Advanced graduate level coursework or working knowledge of library technologies and online resources
• Training or experience in working with mainstream social media in a public library setting

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Comprehensive knowledge of current practices in public libraries, including reference services, reader's advisory, collection development, and library technology
• Comprehensive knowledge of online resources
• Excellent written and oral communications skills
• Skill in utilizing current technology and social media
• Ability to work cooperatively and congenially with others, individually and in a team
• Ability to handle customer issues and complaints appropriately
• Ability to produce news releases, newsletters and other publicity for an organization
• Ability to develop and present programs to library users
• Ability to speak and read Spanish or Vietnamese

Physical Requirements / Work Environment
The incumbent works in a typical library environment but some physical labor, exposure to dust and travel between library facilities, may occur. Physical tasks may include lifting, squatting, bending, stooping, walking, and carrying supplies, as needed, to accomplish the tasks of the activity on a daily basis. Must be able to reach materials at 90” height shelving or shelving at floor level, lift/carry up to 50 pounds infrequently, and push/pull a 200 pound wheeled book cart. Must also be able to utilize keyboard and peripherals, and operate a telephone. Primary environment will be in a climate controlled, indoor atmosphere.

Education, training, experience:
Minimum Qualifications
• Master's Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited college or university
• Up to 1 year related experience

Licenses and Certifications
• Valid Class C driver's license
