Job description:
Performs inspection work to ensure compliance with municipal ordinances and regulations governing construction of buildings and housing, and ensure compliance with legally established specifications, requirements, and Codes. Research and respond to citizens’ questions via email. Under general supervision, assist professionals, such as; architects, engineers, and contractors, as well as, homeowners, by providing routine and technical information related to City Codes and Ordinances and construction issues. Assist the public with the City permit and plan development process. May review construction plans for Code Compliance. Review, approve and process water, sewer taps applications and driveway applications. A priority is placed on customer service and people skills.
•Knowledge of building codes, ordinances, and regulations related to building, electrical, plumbing and/or safety.
•Ability to field inspect job sites, walk construction sites, climb ladders to inspect high places.
•Possess or obtain plumbing, electrical, etc. licenses or obtain within one year.
•Knowledge and skill to complete needed paperwork.
•Computer skills required. Website maintenance experience is a plus.
•Skills to operate a vehicle.
•Ability to review site and construction plans and specifications and apply code requirements.
•May work closely with Code Enforcement Officers and Code Enforcement management. Experience in Code Enforcement a plus. Willingness to learn non-structural code enforcement.

Job Requirements

Education, training, experience:
•High School Diploma or GED.
•Certification as Municipal Inspector from governmental agencies; or
•Minimum 2 years experience as an Inspector with other municipalities in the performing code enforcement in the building, plumbing and electrical trade; or
•Journeyman Electrician license or Journeyman Plumber license with minimum of 4 years experience.
•Class D Water Operator license or be able to obtain within one year.
•Valid Texas Driver’s License
