Job description:
The purpose of this position is to supervise, assign, review and participate in the work of staff responsible for providing animal control services with the Animal Control Department. This is accomplished by responding to calls and complaints made by the public in a timely manner, setting traps to capture wild animals, educating the public about animal diseases and issues, cleaning animal cages and kennels, and participating in the selection, evaluation, and training of staff.

Knowledge of: laws and regulations governing the licensing, quarantine, and impounding of animals; proper application and use of animal control devices.

Skill/Ability to: Maintains the animal shelter by overseeing the care, feeding, and cleaning of animals; conducting weekly supply inventory; and consulting with veterinary services. Prepare and maintain animal control records by ensuring animals are logged into and out of the kennel management program, developing reports such as impounds, dispositions, licenses, etc. and ensuring website is up-to-date.

Responsible for overseeing the Animal Control Officers by assigning work duties; prioritizing workloads; completing reports for accidents and injuries; facilitating training; monitoring performance; mentoring; maintaining compliance with various regulations; and reviewing paperwork.

Educates and enforces City ordinances by explaining ordinances relating to the care and keeping of animals; issuing citations, warnings, licenses, and tags; educating the public on purposes of ordinances; educating the public on safety around animals, and enforcing all appropriate animal related City ordinances and state laws.

Maintains supplies and equipment by ordering supplies as needed; purchasing and replacing equipment; researches and prepares recommendations for budgetary purchases; and monitors budget to ensure purchases remain within projected amounts.

Job Requirements

Education, training, experience:
Requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature that may be obtained with six-months to one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency. Community college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training. Plus at least one year up to and including three years of work experience in animal control.

Must be a Certified Animal Control Officer and Euthanasia Technician (must be obtained within six (6) months of employment). Provide valid Texas driver's license.
