Job Description


Job description:
Under direct supervision, performs various wastewater treatment plant operation and maintenance tasks.

Examples of Duties:
1. Assists in the general maintenance and operation of wastewater treatment plant equipment to include pumps, valves, electric motors, filters, electrical switch gear, and meters.
2. Collects water and wastewater samples as directed.
3. Loads and unloads supplies and chemicals from trucks, tankers and other transport containers.
4. Assists operators and mechanics in the cleaning and repair of tanks, basins, reservoirs and associated equipment.
5. Informs supervisor of all problems, deviations, hazards, unfamiliar situations and all work activities.
6. Operates various light to heavy construction equipment and tools to include tractors, backhoes, dump trucks, jack hammers, air compressors, trenchers, earth compactors, weed trimmers, mowers, vehicles, and other pneumatic, electrical or hydraulic powered hand tools.
7. Performs general housekeeping of building interiors to include sweeping, mopping, dusting, hosing, vacuuming, emptying refuse containers, cleaning windows, cleaning counter tops and other hard surfaces and cleaning restrooms.
8. Performs general housekeeping of building exteriors, tanks and basins to include brushing, hosing and spraying surfaces to remove growth buildup of aquatic vegetation and insect nestings.
9. Performs lawn care functions to include mowing, weed trimming, lawn watering, distribution of light herbicides and pesticides, tree trimming and trash collection at the treatment plant, lift stations, and water pumping stations.
10. Assists with other special projects and tasks as directed.
11. Adheres to personnel, safety, and department policies and procedures.
12. Assists other coworkers as needed.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements


Education, training, experience:
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is required. Related utility operation, equipment operation or plant operation experience is preferred. Must possess a valid Texas driver's license and driving record must be in compliance with Town policy.

Skills in operating heavy to light construction equipment and in using small power tools and equipment in a safe and proper manner. To perform the essential functions of the job, must be able to talk, read, see, walk, and hear; have good hand/foot/eye coordination to operate and repair equipment and vehicles; follow oral and written directives; perform strenuous physical activities to include, exerting up to 100 lbs of pressure, lift push, pull, and carry heavy supplies and equipment several times a day; able to shovel, crawl, bend, kneel, dig holes for several hours per day, climb on and off equipment, operate vibrating equipment, work indoors, underground, outdoors, in confined spaces, in pipes, culverts, manholes and trenches, on level, slippery, sloping, unstable and muddy terrain, and under constantly noisy conditions; and work in adverse environmental conditions to include inclement weather and hazardous conditions including mechanical, electrical, fume odor, dust/mist, chemical, and toxic waste hazards and other solid waste substances and exposure to insects, etc. Able to maintain an effective and pleasant working relationship with employees, contractors, and the general public. Must be able to work extensive hours, or various work shifts as needed.
