Job Summary:
Assists in the operation and management of city-owned pools, including supervision of staff as may be assigned.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
This information is intended to be descriptive of the principle duties and responsibilities of the position. The following examples do not identify all duties performed by any single incumbent.
1) Monitors and maintains swimmer safety at all times, supervises assigned personnel.
2) Assists Parks & Recreation Manager in implementing and following the comprehensive Aquatic Risk Management Program as required by Ellis & Associates and facility’s Emergency Action Plan.
3) Maintain accurate accountability for cash drawers and cash deposits.
4) Maintains general appearance and cleanliness of assigned area and performs general housekeeping of assigned area; maintains water safety equipment.
5) Performs basic life support skills as necessary.
6) Assists in scheduling of lifeguards.
7) Assists in conducting in-service training for staff.
8) Performs chemical readings on pH and chlorine levels and water temperature.
9) Coordinates schedules and conducts recreational activities at pools.
10) Conducts physical conditioning of entire staff, including self.
11) Performs other duties as may be assigned.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:
Continuously sits, looks, listens, and talks while monitoring and maintaining swimmer safety. Frequently stands, walks lifts and carries safety equipment; chairs and tables on pool deck; pushes/pull vacuum, broom, and water hoses, and handles equipment; kneels, bends and climbs stairs and guard stands. Occasionally reaches for safety equipment, chairs and tables on pool deck, and twist while demonstrating safety moves, swim lessons; diving instructions. This position is subject to outside environmental conditions, including being in extreme heat while performing job.

Job Requirements


Education, training, experience:
• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred but not required
• Some college preferred but not required
• Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License
• 20/25 vision or better with corrective lenses
• Jeff Ellis & Associates ILTP (International Lifeguard Training Program) License-training, provided on-site at applicants expense
• Water Safety Instruction preferred
• Must have completed at least 1 season as Lifeguard
• Experience in water safety and public relations
• Experience in supervising others preferred
• Experience planning and conducting recreational activities preferred
• Excellent swimming skills
• Good interpersonal and organizational skills
• Good supervisory skills
• Ability to effectively plan, organize and maintain records, implement oral and written policies, and maintain good working relationships with people of all ages
• Ability to give verbal and physical instructions to swim lesson students
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions from supervisor
• Ability to work with money; adding; subtracting; counting
• Ability to exercise good judgment and provide technical assistance to assigned staff and other city employees
• Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance
• Ability to operate a cash register; pool vacuum; safety equipment
• Ability to wear sun protective equipment such as 100% UV sunglasses, billed/brimmed hat or cap; sunscreen
• Ability to wear gloves when using cleaning solutions in custodial work
