Using knowledge and skills attained through Master’s level education, this position provides library reference and readers’ advisory service to the public. Position may also be involved in the developing library programs, collections, promotional materials, and statistical records. This position reports to and takes direction from Adult Services Manager and the Library Director. This position interacts extensively with other City employees and the public. This position generally does not provide direction to other employees.

Essential Functions:

The information listed below is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of this position.

• Serves library patrons at the Reference and Information Desks by searching catalogs, computer files and print resources to locate information, assisting with computerized book searches, providing information from electronic databases and Internet sources, assisting patrons on the use of electronic resources and providing referrals to other resources as needed.

• Develops and implements adult programs; plans activities, determines required supplies, calculates costs, tracks attendance, and evaluates outcomes.

• Develops assigned collections: analyzes, selects, and maintains adult collections, withdraws outdated materials, and interprets and applies usage reports and statistics.

• Participates in promotional activities to educate active and potential patrons about library services and programs. May include design and production of brochures, flyers, printed and online calendars, electronic newsletters, and library web pages.

• Ensures efficient operational functions through the preparation and distribution of statistical records and reports.

• Furthers professional knowledge through participation in workshops and professional meetings.

Job Requirements

Education, training, experience:
Formal Education / Knowledge
Work requires specialized knowledge in a professional or technical field. Work requires professional level of knowledge which is acquired in a Master's degree-level of study, M.L.S., M.S in Library Science from an American Libraries Association accredited university.

No experience required. Public library experience preferred.

Certification and Other Requirements
Valid Texas Class C Driver's License

Work Schedule
This position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule that includes working days, nights, and some weekends.
