GENERAL PURPOSE: Under close supervision, performs a variety of custodial functions, set-up and take down of event equipment; assists in maintaining the Civic/Convention Center in accordance with all safety regulations, established procedures and in a professional and presentable manner; provides excellent customer service.

The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

•Assists in ensuring a professional, safe facility for the community.
•Performs assigned duties in setting-up and breaking down for meetings and events as instructed through written and/or oral communication.
•Uses proper cleaning methods and equipment to clean, scrub, mop, dust, and disinfect restrooms, common areas, meeting rooms, offices and hallways, including but not limited to: floors, walls, dividers, toilets, urinals, mirrors, windows, kitchen equipment, tables, and chairs, and to dispose of trash.
•Operates and maintains facility equipment, including but not limited to: man-lift, scrubber, buffer, shampooer, power washer, leaf blower, and general cleaning equipment, stage rigging, theatrical sound, lighting, audio/visual equipment, HVAC and electrical systems.
•Stocks janitorial supplies and communicates supply and equipment needs to Lead Facility Specialist.
•Performs routine building maintenance duties including but not limited to: light carpentry, painting, and changing bulbs, filters and batteries.
•Maintains facility grounds and sidewalks for cleanliness and safe use.
•Inventories and stores equipment prior to and after events, ensuring its safe return to designated areas.
•Greets clients and guests upon arrival with a friendly and professional manner and appearance; communicates audio/visual equipment and facility capabilities to clients.
•Responds to client, guest, and management requests in a timely and professional manner.
•Unlocks all outside entrance doors upon arrival, and locks all outside access doors at the end of events or at the close of business hours.
•Monitors events and maintains contact with clients to ensure guest and vendor safety and that City and Center policies have been followed; documents damage or policy violations to Center Manager; recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries.
•Maintains a professional relationship with City of New Braunfels employees, vendors and clients.
•Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Requirements

Education, training, experience:
Education and Experience:
High School diploma or GED equivalent, AND one (1) year of related work experience in a hospitality or service driven facility, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Bilingual preferred.

Required Licenses or Certifications:
•Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.

Required Knowledge of:
•Basic tools and equipment used in custodial maintenance.
•Safety rules and regulations, occupational hazards and safety precautions relative to custodial work and the use of cleaning agents.

Required Skill in:
•Safe and efficient operation and maintenance of tools and equipment according to standard operating and safety procedures.
•Effective communication skills, both verbal and written for positive relationships with employees, citizens, and the general public.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:
•Work is performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, with exposure to hazardous chemicals and equipment, requires constant physical efforts, and ability to safely lift, carry, and move items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
•Must be able to work weekdays, weekends, and holidays on any assigned shift in an assigned uniform.
•May be required to work immediately before, during or immediately after an emergency or disaster.
