Job description:
Job Summary: This position performs a wide range of Human Resources functions in support to the Human Resources department. These duties include but are not limited to filing, conducting new employee orientation, coordinating pre-employment testing, posting employment opportunities on the City website, in newspapers, and other websites, assisting employees with benefits enrollment and questions, assists in Leave of Absence (LOA), FMLA, and COBRA administration, and processes the department accounts payable invoices. This position reports to the Director of General Operations.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities: This information is intended to be descriptive of the principle duties and responsibilities of the position. The following examples do not identify all duties performed by any single incumbent.
1) Provide clerical support and assistance to the department.
2) Complete special projects as assigned.
3) Prepare, distribute and post job openings and job ads for recruitment.
4) Establish and maintain filing system for tracking job openings and information.
5) Coordinate pre-employment testing and background checks; conduct reference checks on candidates.
6) Organize and conduct new employee orientation, process all new hire paperwork and set up appropriate files.
7) Administer and coordinate LOA, FMLA and COBRA.
8) Perform departmental typing, sorting, and filing duties.
9) Maintain a professional appearance and image.
10) Treat all employees, visitors, vendors, and members of the public with courtesy.
11) Perform other duties as may be assigned

Physical and Environmental Conditions: Duties are generally performed in an office setting. Some light work requiring occasional lifting objects up to 20 pounds to move objects. Must be able to sit for long periods of time. Work may also require stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, standing, walking, pushing, and pulling.

Job Requirements


Education, training, experience:
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Basic knowledge of Human Resources principles and practices.
• Basic knowledge of laws pertaining to Human Resources.
• Working knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Good keyboarding/typing skills.
• Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids:
• Computer and related software, switchboard, typewriter, calculator, copier, fax machine.

Education, Certification and Experience Required:
• Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Some college level coursework is preferred.
• Possession of a valid Texas Class C driver’s license.
• One year of related experience.
• Human Resources experience is preferred.

Special Requirements:
• Must type 45 wpm.
• Must be bondable.
