Job description:
The City of Bryan is seeking qualified candidates for System Dispatcher for the Transmission Division of Bryan Texas Utilities (BTU). This position is a transitional position allowing personnel to receive the provided training to gain experience and job knowledge needed to obtain North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Transmission Operator (TOP) or Reliability Coordinator (RC) Certification while also performing various administrative tasks in the BTU Dispatch control center.

Responsibilities include:

- Completes BTU-provided training to prepare for NERC TOP/RC Certification Exam.

- Receives NERC TOP or RC Certification within eighteen (18) months of hire date.

- Facilitates customer service activities and helps restore electric service to customers during power outages.

- Performs duties to record, report and maintain files on work completed, work scheduled, line device operations and maintenance completed.

- Generates work orders and assigns them to appropriate field personnel.

- Receives phone calls from customers regarding outages, voltage problems, street light repairs and other maintenance issues and refers calls to appropriate department or dispatches appropriate personnel.

- Monitors weather conditions in order to prepare for inclement weather and extreme temperatures which may affect the power system.

- Responds regularly and promptly to work.

- Performs related duties as required.

Job Requirements


Education, training, experience:
- High School Diploma or GED, plus a minimum of 1 year additional training or education in area of specialization, which could be the equivalent of an Associate's Degree.

- At least one to two (1-2) years of work experience in the utility industry as it relates to transmission.

- Must be able to work rotating 12 hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

- Must obtain NERC Certification as Transmission System Operator or Reliability Coordinator within eighteen (18) months of hire date to retain employment.

- Ability to physically respond to BTU's Dispatch Center within 30 minutes of contact when needed for emergency assistance.
