LIBRARY ASSISTANT I (FULL TIME)- POSTED FEBRUARY 13, 2013

Essential Functions: Collaborates with the Library Director and coordinates with library staff to address the day to day needs and functions of the library. Assists the public in selecting and locating library materials and information. Explains the use of print and electronic reference sources. Assists the public in the use of library computers, online catalog, online resources and other library equipment. Sorts and shelves books and materials. May assist with material processing and library programming. Uses library automation system to input, organize and locate material and patron information. Answers desk phones and utilizes computers to correspond with patrons, city personnel, etc. via email. Shares responsibility with other library personnel in the collection of library fines and fees.

Job Requirements


Education, training, experience:
Minimum Qualifications: Must have High School Diploma/GED or equivalent. 1-3 years of work experience in a municipal or similar library experience preferred. Must be able to attend educational workshops as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Some knowledge of practices, principles and techniques of modern public library operations. Ability to learn routine library procedures. Ability and skill to use personal computer/Microsoft Office Suite. Must be self-motivated and have excellent organization and communication skills. Requires sitting or standing for extended periods of time, frequent stooping and squatting, and the ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs.
