The City of Lancaster, Texas (population 37,150) is seeking a qualified applicant to serve as the Senior Planner. Located only 15 minutes from Dallas, Lancaster is a thriving, diverse community. The Senior Planner position is critical to providing Lancaster with creative and practical design solutions to meet the needs of a growing community with a changing character.

This is a professional position reporting to the Director of Development Services. Responsibilities include providing information and assistance to the public regarding zoning and development requirements, reviewing development requirements for compliance with the City’s rules and regulations, preparing planning reports and recommendations, drafting zoning and development related ordinances and policies, making presentations to boards, committees and the general public, oversight of the update of the City’s Comprehensive Plan and carrying out special projects.

Job Requirements

Education, training, experience:
The successful applicant must have strong written and verbal communication skills, computer literacy, and the ability to work effectively with neighborhood residents, civic groups, and other professionals. Must be able to work well in a team environment and handle multiple projects. Applicants will have at least a bachelor’s degree in urban and regional planning, or related field; and/or four (4) to ten (10) years of applicable planning experience with a local or regional planning agency; or, a master’s degree in urban and regional planning or closely related field and up to four (4) years of applicable experience. An AICP is preferred.
