Job description:
The purpose of this position is to provide library services for the City's youth and their parents. This is accomplished by creating and coordinating various programs, events, and services for children, teens and parents. Other duties may include assisting patrons in locating books and reference materials, providing information, managing the children's and teen areas, maintaining the children's and teen book collection and interfacing with other City employees and citizens. This position provides direction to other employees.

The hours of this position are generally Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with some nights and weekends required.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides premier customer service to internal and external customers by responding to requests in a timely and professional manner. Plans, develops and conducts programs, events and ongoing activities for children, teens, and parents such as story times and classes. Partners with other libraries, schools and community groups.


Manages children's area by arranging books, straightening materials, organizing special collections, reviewing materials and supervising volunteers and assistants.


Assists and instructs patrons in locating books, reference materials, online sources, and use of library equipment.


Reviews and updates children's materials by budgeting money for books and magazines, reviews books for purchase, assists in classifying and cataloging books and attends various workshops. Provides current technology resources for children and teens.


Promotes and publicizes programs digitally, in print and in person.


May provide administrative support by ensuring various operational functions are completed, assigning duties to personnel, overseeing library facilities, preparing and reviewing reports.


Provides outreach programming and services to organizations in the community.


Work requires self-initiative, a high level of motivation, and the ability to work successfully as part of a team as well as independently.


Regular attendance required.

Job Requirements


Education, training, experience:
Master of Library or Information Science from an accredited school or equivalent professional knowledge of a related discipline. Preference will be given to candidates with a Master of Library or Information Science from an accredited school.


At least one year of related experience required.


Valid Texas Driver's License.
