Job description:
This position requires working a variety of schedules in a 24 hour 7 day a week communications center, including weekends and holidays. In the event of a natural disaster or high stress situations, one must report for duty.
Operate police, fire, and EMS radios, while maintaining constant radio contact with all field units.
Dispatch via radio, telephone, and written orders, relay requests and complaints to mobile units, and receive and process information for departmental officials.
Relays and updates necessary information to appropriate agencies.
Answer incoming telephone calls, including 911, ensuring that calls are processed quickly and accurately; delivering life saving medical instructions when needed.
Input and retrieve data from the TCIC/NCIC system, monitor incoming teletypes and other information as required by departmental and state guidelines
Develop and maintain a good working knowledge of the CAD system for the dispatching of calls.
Trains new and existing employees as a normal course of their responsibilities.
Performs other related duties as assigned by the Lead Communications operator or other Management personnel.

Job Requirements

Education, training, experience:
•High School Diploma or equivalent required.
•Six months to one year related experience preferred.
•Ability to pass CritiCall computerized testing. CritiCall is software that tests dispatcher, call taker, and telecommunicator applicants for critical skills & abilities necessary for success in today's complex -- and stressful -- dispatching environment.
•Must have the ability to obtain Emergency Medical Dispatch Certification within one year.
•Must not have any tattoos that are on hands, neck, or face.
•Must have the ability to obtain TCLEOSE Basic Telecommunications Certification and have the ability to receive access from the National Crime Information Center. Please refer to the chart below to see if you are qualified to receive licensing.
