Job description:
This is an exciting and rewarding position with the City of Baytown, part of the dynamic Sugarland/Houston/Baytown metropolis acknowledged as one of America’s top 5 regions for jobs. This position provides a vital role in upholding the structural integrity and safety of City of Baytown residencies and establishments including but not limited to multi-family, substandard structures, and signs through inspections and code enforcement. An individual in this role will receive and investigates code violation complaints, interpret building and municipal codes, conduct building inspections, and attend court proceedings as needed.

Job Requirements


Education, training, experience:
REQUIRED:
1. High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
2. Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
3. Three (3) years of experience in code enforcement, building, mechanical, electrical or plumbing inspections or an equivalent combination of education and related field experience.
4. State Code Enforcement Officer Certification or the ability to obtain within one (1) year.

PREFERRED:
1. State Code Enforcement Officer Certification.
2. Texas State Plumbing Inspector’s License or the ability to obtain within two (2) years.
3. Possess one of the following certifications:
Building Inspector Certification from a nationally recognized model code group.
Mechanical Inspector Certification from a nationally recognized model code group.
Electrical Inspector Certification from a nationally recognized model code group.
Plumbing Inspector Certification from a nationally recognized model code group.
