Job description:
Work involves inspecting new construction, remodeling and repairs, reviewing plans and specifications to determine compliance with City mechanical and plumbing codes. Must have the ability to interpret and enforce the City’s Mechanical and Plumbing Codes and understand and interpret plans and specifications. Must have knowledge of mechanical and plumbing construction and installation methods, practices and materials. Five (5) years of experience as a Journeyman and/or Master Plumber is required. Ability to obtain a plumbing inspector’s license issued by the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners within 3 months. Requires experience in mechanical and plumbing installation work and educational background sufficient to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Must have valid Texas Drivers License with good driving record, driving record check will be required.

Job Requirements

Education, training, experience:
Knowledge of:

Mechanical and plumbing construction and installation methods, practices, and materials.

Possible defects and faults in mechanical and plumbing construction as well as installation activities; standard testing devices, methods, and corrective measures.

Safe driving principles and practices.

Skill to:

Utilize a variety of tools and equipment used in mechanical/plumbing inspection work including ladder, transit, level, screw driver, tape measure, and pliers.

Operate office equipment including a computer.

Safely operate a motor vehicle.

Operate a two way radio.

Ability to:

Learn applicable mechanical and plumbing codes.

Understand and apply City’s mechanical and plumbing codes.

Understand and interpret plans, schematics and specifications.

Detect and locate defective mechanical and plumbing installations, and ascertain the stage of construction or installation when defects most easily are found and corrected.

Objectively, tactfully and uniformly enforce City codes.

Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Establish, maintain and foster positive working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
