Job description:
The purpose of this position is to ensure a healthy and environmentally sound City environment. This is accomplished by investigating and inspecting food service establishments, schools, daycare centers, hospitals, nursing homes, swimming pools and other residential, commercial or industrial property for compliance with health and food safety ordinances. This position also participates in multi-family inspections, plan review and mosquito abatement activities. This position does not provide direction to other employees.

The information listed below is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of this position.

•Reads and interprets various City ordinances and adopted codes; investigates and inspects food service establishments, schools, daycare centers, hospitals, nursing homes, swimming pools and other residential, commercial or industrial property for compliance with health, food safety, and nuisance ordinances.

•Recommends revisions to health and safety policies and ordinances. Issues health permits to operate food service operations and other establishments. Conducts plan review for pools, spas and food establishments.

•Maintains environmental surveys, records of inspections and action taken; issues citations, as required; prepares documentation; may represent the City in court cases and hearings, when necessary; Coordinates the City mosquito control program.

•Makes recommendations to both public and private industry representatives on
methods/techniques to modify daily operations in accordance with current health codes. May create , coordinate and conduct various educational programs.

Job Requirements


Education, training, experience:
Work requires broad knowledge in a general profession or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

Over one year of relevant experience required.

Valid Texas Class C Driver’s license.

Must be able to obtain a Registered Sanitarian license from the Texas Department of Health, a Pool Operator Certification and Food Protection Manager Certification within one year of employment.
