Job description:
Hurst, Texas (www.hursttx.gov) is accepting applications for the position of CRIME VICTIM LIAISON to provide information and applications for Crime Victims Compensation to victims of crime and provide assistance to complete applications, when requested. Ability to work a flexible schedule, based on caseload and to work with the Hurst, Euless, and Bedford Police Departments.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Provide crisis counseling with all long-term counseling referred to professional counselors and make referrals to community resources when appropriate. Provide police reports when requested by the Attorney General’s office. Provide training and familiarization for police employees on victims’ issues at least once every two years and when hired into the department. Provide peer support when an officer or employee of the department or city becomes the victim of a crime. Coordinate and train volunteers who assist with the crime victim’s program and report volunteer hours to the appropriate person. Attend training and conferences to improve victims’ assistance skills and knowledge of victims’ issues and available resources. Maintain contact with the Crime Victims Compensation Division of the Attorney General’s Office to ensure that victim’s claims are being processed in a timely manner. Assist the District Attorney’s Office to locate victims. Assist victims to contact the appropriate agencies regarding protective orders, shelters, and the D.A.’s Office. Assist in the expeditious return of property to victims when applicable. Assist in the scheduling of interview, line-ups and other required appearances when requested. Explain prosecution procedures to the victim or make referrals to the appropriate entities and provide information on case status. Maintain confidentiality of victims’ files and cases in accordance with state law. Maintain accurate and confidential records in Grant Management Program for victims served and publish quarterly reports to the liaison’s supervisor. Arrange for emergency housing when requested to do so. Network with local churches resource centers, and other police agencies to provide victims with local assistance when needed. Assist with victim Impact Statements in conjunction with other agencies where appropriate. Publish materials to inform victims of their rights and local resources. Maintain current information concerning victims’ rights, legislative changes that impact victims, and the agency, and suggest revisions to policy to reflect those changes. Performs other related duties as assigned.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES: Skills in police terminology and practices, municipal and state laws, police records procedures, and information and privacy laws. Working knowledge of domestic violence issues, judicial processes and community resources for victims of crime. Ability to use Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Grant Management Program, and/or Microsoft Office Applications/Microsoft Publisher. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, the public, victims, staff in the DA’s and AG’s offices, especially under stressful conditions. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Ability to work a flexible schedule based on caseload.

Education, training, experience:
MINIMUM EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or equivalent, two years related experience and a valid State of Texas drivers license with an acceptable driving record required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
