Job description:
The City is seeking a professional Chief of Police for a active position in a small yet vibrant community located in Lavaca County. With a community population of 886 within the Eagle Shale oil and gas play, an officer will experience a wide variety of calls and investigations, and must be willing and able to work any shift. The Police Department administers law enforcement and Federal and State grant programs, and handles animal control and code enforcement for the City. Candidates must be resourcful, tactful and exercise sound judgement in emergencies; be TCLOESE Peace Office certified and meet TCLOESE guidelines for licensing; possess at least seven (7) years of experience as a law enforcement official in a law enforcement agency, involving positions of progressive responsibility and demonstrated ability ; and pass a thorough background investigation with drug screen, psychological evaluation and physicals exams.

Job Requirements


Education, training, experience:
Candidates must be resourceful, tactful, and exercise sound judgement in emergencies; be TCLEOSE Peace Officer certified and meet TCLEOSE guidelines for licensing, possess at least seven (7) years of experience as a law enforcement official in a law enforcement agency, involving positions of progressive responsibility and demonstrated abilituy; and pass a through background investigation with drug screen, psychologial evaluation and physical exams. The Department has a full time Chief, one full time officer and Reserve Officers. The Police Chief will work under the supervision of the City Administrator. The Chief will be proficient in computerized reporting, Ticket Writer and associated programs and will plan, coordinate, manage and diret the operations/activities of the Police Department. The Chief will actively patrol the community; investigate and enforce all State, and Federal and local ordinances; and perform other duties as may be assigned to maintain City operations and services. Must have strong ethics, be committed to Public Service, be dedicated and professional, with a willingness to work together with the community to maintain a healthy and safe community. Strong communication skills a must. Represents the Police Department in all significant public relations matter; demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide confident customer service. This position is considered Essential Personnel during an emergency situation.
