Job description:
The City of Bryan is seeking qualified candidates for Communications & Marketing Coordinator. This position performs and monitors professional level marketing/communications initiatives, media relations, and/or public relations for the City's internal and external communications. This position is involved in the research, preparation and implementation of a variety of promotional and informational programs, events, projects, and outreach strategies.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Serves as the liaison with City departments to develop and coordinate marketing/communication strategies and initiatives for programs, events and related City Council directives as part of the City's overall strategic plan.

- Assists the Communications and Marketing Director with enacting all components of the City's communication plan and other marketing strategies that impact the City of Bryan's employees, citizens, and target markets.

- Assists with development and management of outreach campaigns, making sure to rely information in a timely and transparent manner through the appropriate communication channel.

- Seeks out relevant and proactive stories, topics, content, etc. to be used to promote Bryan's image.

- Researches, prepares, and edits a variety of promotional and informational content for use in communications materials, including copy for stories, press releases, topical information, web, presentations, newsletters, etc.

- Assists the Communications and Marketing Director with media relations needs, including developing relationships, writing press releases, gathering information for current events or future stories, fulfilling press asks, filling in media appearances to promote City initiatives, etc.

- Researches, plans, develops, and evaluates methods to encourage citizen participation in City or departmental programs or projects.

- Advises the Communications and Marketing Director on citizen issues and concerns.

- Attends and serves on internal and external committees and boards as requested.

- Responds to inquiries from the general public regarding Communication/Marketing needs via phone, email, social media or in person; researches and resolves information requests, complaints and/or problems, or provides Director with needed information to do so.

- Participates in the selection of outside vendors when contract selection occurs for marketing related services.

- Assists with emergency situations by providing crisis communications to the public and media.

- Provides input for the departmental budget.

- Coordinates, facilitates and schedules all necessary services requested by City departments for special events to include presentation/marketing equipment, collateral, signage, displays and other special needs.

- Performs related duties as required.

Job Requirements

Education, training, experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Business Administration or similar field of study plus 4-6 years of professional work experience performing communications, marketing, journalism, and/or other public relations functions; OR an Associate's degree plus 6-8 years of experience as listed above; OR other equivalent combinations of education, experience, and training.

- Must possess knowledge of the principles, practices, methods and techniques involved with public information, media and community relations, employee communications, writing, editing, social media, graphic arts, audio visual production, and photography.

- Must be able to compose news articles, speeches, radio and television scripts, reports, correspondence and other written materials.

- Must be able to utilize traditional and new media channels, such as social media, to communicate City messages.

- Must be able to design and lay out a variety of written communication materials in preparation for publication.
