Job Description


Job description:
Under general direction, performs inspection of Capital Improvement and Land Development infrastructure, including water, sanitary sewer, drainage, and paving construction improvements.

Examples of Duties:

1. Inspects all aspects of public improvement project construction and reconstruction by contractors, developers, and public utility companies.
2. Coordinates with contractors on methods, sequence and public safety during construction.
3. Insures construction work is performed in accordance with applicable plans, standards, and specifications.
4. Performs related survey work to establish and verify lines and grades, records location of all water, sanitary and storm sewer lines.
5. Coordinates testing of water and sanitary sewer lines and assists with testing for concrete pavement and structures.
6. Insures all water and sewer mains are tested properly before being accepted by the Town.
7. Measures and calculates quantities for payment on contracts and maintains as built plans.
8. Provides technical advice, writes reports, summaries, and recommendations to immediate supervisor and others, as directed.
9. Reviews plans and specifications of work assignments with the immediate supervisor.
10. Assists with other special projects and tasks, as directed.
11. Adheres to personnel, safety, and department policies and procedures.
12. Informs immediate supervisor of potential hazards, problem areas, and all work activities.
13. Informs immediate supervisor of all inquiries and concerns of the general public, contractors, developers, etc.
14. Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements


Education, training, experience:
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is required. Must have two or more years of public improvements inspection and construction work experience to include street/alley paving, water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer lines, earth work, concrete, job safety, and testing procedures. Must have a valid Texas Driver's License and driving record must be in compliance with Town policy. A Texas Engineering Extension Service Construction Inspection course certification is preferred.

Must have an extensive working knowledge of public improvements construction to include street/alley paving, water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer lines, earth work, concrete, job safety, and testing procedures. Must have excellent mathematical skills in calculating grades, volumes, and areas. Must have good leadership, organizational, and communicative skills. Bilingual communicative skills are preferred. To perform the essential functions of the job, must be able to talk, read, see, walk, and hear; operate a survey level, record and interpret survey information; have good hand/foot/eye coordination to operate and repair equipment and vehicles; follow oral and written directives; work well under pressure and stress; handle multiple tasks; prioritize and organize work assignments; perform strenuous physical activities to include, exerting up to 100 lbs. of pressure, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying heavy supplies and inspection and construction equipment several times a day; able to shovel, crawl, bend, kneel, dig holes for several hours per day, climb on and off equipment, work indoors, underground, outdoors, in confined spaces, in pipes, culverts, manholes and trenches, on level, slippery, sloping, unstable and muddy terrain, and under constantly noisy conditions; and work in adverse environmental conditions to include inclement weather and hazardous conditions including mechanical, electrical, fume odor, dust/mist, chemical, and toxic waste hazards and other solid waste substances and exposure to insects, etc. Able to maintain an effective and pleasant working relationship with employees, contractors, and the general public. Must be able to work extensive hours, as needed.
