GENERAL PURPOSE: Under close supervision, performs routine legal clerical work in the support of the operations of the Municipal Court; provides information within scope of authority.

The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

•Assists customers and callers regarding court procedures, payments, citations, and warrants; responds to requests for information within scope of authority.
•Collects, posts, and balances fines, fees and bonds, and accurately reconciles daily cash transactions using court management computer software; reviews and verifies accounting records.
•Inputs a variety of court transactions into court management software.
•Maintains and monitors court records and citations filed in court cases.
•Retrieves and processes accident and arrest reports; assists in preparing case files.
•Retrieves, maintains, and processes warrant information in conjunction with New Braunfels Police Department jail booking log.
•Prepares and processes complaints, summons, writs and warrants as assigned.
•Receives payment for fines and court fees; processes collections and payment plans, including working with outside collection agency.
•Processes all necessary paperwork for court proceedings, including creating docket.
•Assists Judge with court proceedings as assigned.
•Receives, verifies and enters data into the computer tracking systems.
•Maintains the absolute confidentiality of all records and information.
•Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Requirements

Education, training, experience:
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED, AND two (2) years customer service and clerical experience, preferably in a municipal court; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Licenses or Certifications:
•Must complete Municipal Court Clerk Level 1 Certification Program within one (1) year of date of hire, and maintain certification.
•Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.

Required Knowledge of:
•Basic functions, procedures, and policies of Municipal Courts.
•Applicable state and Federal rules, codes and regulations.
•Methods for delivering excellent customer service.
•City policies and procedures.
•Principles of basic cash management, record keeping and records management.
•General office practices and equipment.
Required Skill in:
•Maintaining complex official records.
•Operating a personal computer utilizing specialized software, and entering information into a computer system with speed and accuracy.
•Professional public relations and customer service.
•Effective communication, both verbal and written.
•Fluency in speaking Spanish preferred.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:
•Work is performed in a standard office environment and is subject to sitting, standing, walking, bending, and reaching for extended periods of time.
•Must be able to safely lift and carry equipment and materials up to thirty (30) pounds.
•May be required to work immediately before, during or after an emergency or disaster.
