Job description:
Under direction to enforce the City's buildings, housing and zoning codes and ordinances and to perform related duties as required.

Review subdivision plats, mobile home lots, building construction plans (new and remodeling) and applications to assure that proposed buildings within the City and its extra-territorial jurisdiction comply with applicable City codes and ordinances.
• Inspect buildings and remodeling during construction phases to assure that structural, electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems installed comply with applicable City codes and zoning ordinances.
• Inspect existing living facilities to assure compliance with applicable housing codes
• Collect fees for and issues permits for subdividing property, constructing or remodeling buildings, moving building structures within or through the City and developing mobile home facilities
• Attend meetings of the Planning and Zoning Commission, the City Council and the Zoning Board of Adjustment to provide technical information as needed.
• Recommend Code and Ordinances revisions to the City Council as appropriate.
• Maintain records and prepares periodic and special reports of building activities
• Administer the Flood Plain program by maintaining Flood Plain maps, interpreting applicable regulations and submitting amended and other reports as necessary.
• Provide building zoning and permit-related information to citizens as inquiries are made
• Perform assigned duties indoors and outdoors where there is some exposure to construction-related safety hazards and where there is a regular need to negotiate conflicts of code interpretation with citizens on a normal forty (40) hour per week work schedule.

Job Requirements

Education, training, experience:
Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school plus specialized training and work experience totaling seven years in home building, commercial construction or a closely related activity.

Thorough knowledge of applicable City codes and ordinances and of the equipment, materials and practices applies in home building and commercial construction; ability to effectively evaluate materials and quality of workmanship applied in installing structural, electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems by contractors and workers.

Must maintain a valid plumbing inspector's license and valid operator's license issued by the State of Texas. Must complete a 160 hour training course in building Inspection and be certified by the Building Officials Association of Texas with two years of employment or be certified by the Southern Building Code Congress.
