Library Assistant Part Time (approximately 26 hours per week) - Original post date 9/28/2012
**Position requires evening and weekend hours**

Position Summary: Under the direction of the Library Director, performs routine manual and clerical work in the public library while maintaining pleasant/professional demeanor with patrons, colleagues and the general public.

Essential job duties include but are not limited to sorting and shelving books, assisting the public in the use of library computers, online catalog, and other library equipment. Uses automated library system to input, organize, and locate patron and material information. Retrieves books and materials with the use of step stools from shelves up to 8 feet in height. Lifts and carries materials and equipment up to 50 pounds in weight.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Some knowledge of practices, principles, and techniques of modern public library operations is required. Must have ability to learn routine library procedures and become familiar with library materials and services. Must be proficient with personal computers and Microsoft Office applications. Must be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.


Salary: $8.00 Per Hour

Education, training, experience:
Education/Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent. Prefer at least 1 year of experience in library, bookstore or other customer service related field. Must be willing to attend educational workshops as required.
