Job description:
Under general supervision, performs all activities to operate and maintain the wastewater treatment plant, collection system and sewage lift stations. Responsible for interpreting lab data, monitoring treatment processes and adjusting controls to maintain plant effluent quality.

Examples of Duties:
1. Cleans, operates and monitors the wastewater treatment plant equipment such as pumps, valves, electric motors, filters, dials, gauges, and meters to ensure proper functioning of the wastewater plant and lift stations.
2. Measures the level and flow of wastewater to make appropriate process adjustments.
3. Collects samples for analysis.
4. Replaces chemical tanks when empty.
5. Makes daily record and monthly reports on wastewater operations.
6. Services pumps, motors, and other equipment to maintain in good working condition.
7. Sweeps, mops, and cleans plant to maintain a safe work area.
8. Inspects treatment plant machinery for proper operation.
9. Repairs motors, pumps, valves, and other equipment used in the wastewater treatment plant.
10. Informs supervisor of all problems, deviations, and unfamiliar situations.
11. Trains other employees in plant operations as required.
12. Operates and maintains various equipment.
13. Adheres to the personnel, safety, and department policies and procedures.
14. Identifies and reports any hazards to Supervisor.
15. Informs supervisor of all work activities.
16. Assist other coworkers as needed.
17. Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements


Education, training, experience:
Must have a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED). Experience in wastewater maintenance work and plant operation experience is preferred. Prefer that you possess a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Wastewater Operator License prior to employment, but must be able to obtain certification within prescribed timeframe. Must have a valid Texas driver's license and driving record must be in compliance with Town policy. Must pass pre-employment drug screening.

Good knowledge of the operation, equipment, and materials used in wastewater plants and stations. Basic knowledge of chemical and testing procedures excellent math and mechanical skills. To perform the essential functions of the job, must be able to read and comprehend blueprints, maps, manuals, and regulations; follow oral and written directives, to talk, read, see, hear, and walk; have good hand/foot/eye coordination to operate equipment; perform strenuous physical activities to include, exerting up to 100 lbs of pressure; lifting heavy objects; shoveling for long time periods; crawling; bending; walking; kneeling; climbing on and off equipment; operating vibrating equipment; working indoors, underground, outdoors, in confined spaces, in trenches, on level, slippery, sloping, unstable and muddy terrain, and under constantly noisy conditions; and work in adverse environmental conditions to include inclement weather, hazardous conditions including mechanical, electrical, fume odor, dust/mist, chemical, and toxic waste hazards and other solid waste substances. May work evenings, weekends and subject to call out.
