Job Description

Job description:
This employee will be a combined Fire Inspector and Code Enforcement Officer for the City of White Oak.

Fire Inspection Description:
Directs, oversees, and participates in inspection of buildings and property for fire hazards and compliance with fire protection laws. Prepares, updates, interprets, and enforces fire codes, ordinances, and standards. Inspects storage, handling, and use of explosives, flammable substances, and hazardous materials. Investigates complaints and answers questions regarding hazards and violations of fire prevention regulation. Oversees review of new building plans to ensure compliance with laws, ordinances, and administrative rules for public fire safety. Studies and interprets fire safety codes to establish procedures for issuing permits regulating storage or use of hazardous and flammable substances. Maintains complete and accurate records, reports, and files.

Code Enforcement Description:
Identify violations of state and local laws and codes, ensuring the safety, health, and welfare of the City. Inspects existing properties, structures, and other facilities to determine compliance with all applicable zoning, housing, environmental safety and related codes, standards and guidelines by state laws and city ordinances by performing many duties.

For the combined positions, the employee must be able to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including City and other governmental officials, community groups, and the general public. Attend City Council meetings when requested.

Job Requirements

Education, training, experience:
-High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
-Valid Texas Driver's License with a good driving record.
-Texas Commission on Fire Protection: Basic Fire Inspector
-Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen, & criminal background check
-TCLEOSE Certification is a plus, but not a requirement
-Either hold or obtain the Texas Code Enforcement license issued by the Texas Department of State Health Services within one-year from date of hire
-Have a working knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software
