Job description:
The City of Petersburg, tx is seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual with strong leadership and interpersonal skills that can assist the City Council in the implementation of a Strategic Plan for the city. He or she will have experience that shows s demonstrated ability to build and maintain constructive relationships with a City Council as well as a wide range of community, governmental groups, and organizations. A background or knowledge in planning and zoning, familiarity with Type B economic development regulations and economic development incentives authorized by Texas law is desired.

The City Manager is responsible for meeting goals and the objectives established by the City Council. Responsible for providing complete and objective information, evaluation of alternatives and identification of the possible impacts of policy decisions. Responsible for supervision and management of other staff in accordance with the City's Personnel Policy Manual. Responsible for management of the City's operational and capital projects.

Serves as the chief administrative and executive officer of the city; under general policy guidance from the City Council and responsibility over all City operations (budget, audit, communication of financial condition of the City, etc.)
-Plans, organizes, controls, integrates and evaluates the work of all City departments to ensure that operations and services comply with the policies and direction set by the City Council and all applicable laws and regulations.
-Plans and evaluates management staff performance; establishes performance requirements and development targets; directs the improvement of management systems, processes and measurement techniques to improve City operations and effectiveness.
-Assures that all terms and conditions imposed in favor of the City in any public utility franchise are faithfully kept and performed taking appropriate action to correct any violation.
-Ensures that all laws and city ordinances are enforced and performs related duties as assigned by the City Council.

Job Requirements

Education, training, experience:
The City of Petersburg is a Type A General Law city with a population of approximately 1,200.
Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration or Management; or other related field from an accredited college or university is highly desired. Equivalent progressively responsible experience may be considered in lieu of educational attainment. Equivalent experience in progressively responsible positions may be considered in lieu of educational attainment.
Possession of an appropriate valid Texas driver's license.

Requires extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of local government administration; knowledge of management theory and practice. Abilities to plan, direct and coordinate all city operations; ability to delegate responsibility for effective management; ability to maintain effective public relations; ability to establish and maintain satisfactory relationships with the City Commission.

The city provides the City Manager with free municipal housing. Approximately 1850 sqft. brick home with a two car garage a large fenced back yard.
