The City of Jersey Village, located in Northwest Harris County, in the heart of the Houston Metropolitan Area, is currently accepting applications for the position of Deputy Court Clerk. Under general supervision of the Municipal Court Administrator, maintains all court records using required knowledge of court operations, policies & procedures; performs clerical & secretarial duties, including typing, filing, data entry, & various other clerical duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Interacts with public & other City departments & employees in a pleasant, efficient manner regarding dissemination of information. Communicates effectively & courteously in person, on the telephone, & in writing with judges, customers, supervisors, & staff. Collects fine & bond payments & post payments in computer. Types & mails correspondence. Inputs data in computer & checks computer information for accuracy. Processes complaints, appeals, warrants; signs & stamps complaints; files & retrieves documents. Prepares court dockets. Answers telephones & acts as relief cashier.

Job Requirements

Education, training, experience:
Sit for extended periods of time inputting data on personal computer &/or assisting customers; ability to safely lift, hold, & carry up to 30 pounds; read complex source documents on both paper and computer screens; stand for extended periods of time filing.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Provide Notary Public services; attendance at one training class per year for Court Clerks as presented by Texas Municipal Courts Education Center.

REQUIRED: A high school diploma or equivalent. Candidate must possess a valid Texas Driver License. Three years experience in related field; types 60 words per minute; 10 key calculator by touch; experience in the use of Word and Excel; experience in use of network based court administration software application, preferably INCODE; thorough knowledge of business organization, office practices, and clerical methods; thorough knowledge of grammar and spelling; ability to deal effectively & courteously with public & communicate in a clear voice; ability to handle difficult court situations with diplomacy & ability to maintain confidentiality of all aspects of job assignments; reads, writes, and converses in the english language.
DESIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, ETC: Courses in personal computing; Associates degree with concentration related to position duties; ability to speak and read Spanish. Minimum Level I or higher TCCA/TMCA court clerk certification & previous court experience preferred.
