Job description:
Under general supervision, is responsible for performing permit technician duties and providing information and assistance to the public. Responsible for providing administrative duties to the department.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
This information is intended to be descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position. The following examples do not identify all duties performed by any single incumbent.

1) Receives all permits and other applications for the Department.
2) Performs varied and increasingly responsible technical work involved in the acceptance, review, processing and issuance of all types of permits and licenses issued by the Department.
3) Calculation of and recording of permit and license fees.
4) Reviews application packets to insure that all necessary documents are included in the submittals.
5) Routes permits and other applications to correct persons for review.
6) Collects and assembles data and background materials for reports and special projects.
7) Schedules meetings and consultations with Department staff, the public, outside agencies, contractors, developers, City Boards of Review and Appeals.
8) Assembles the comments of the plan reviewers and communicates with applicants, prepares permits for issuance, assists in the scheduling of and keeping of records of inspections, keeps records of and provides billings of contractor and other types of licensing, insures proper filing and logging of plans, and related documents for the permanent record, prepares certificates of occupancy, prepares billing for contractors with City charge accounts.
9) Assists the public in understanding permitting processes in the City Code as it relates to their projects.
10) Serves customers at the public counter and provides information and assistance to the public.
11) Answers telephones, directs callers, and walk-in customers, responds to complaints and requests for information.
12) Provides a variety of administrative duties in support of the Department.
13) Assists Chief Building Official with coordination of any outsourced plan review, inspections or other services including maintenance of the Division webpage.
14) Responsible for maintaining computer and paper records for the Department.
15) Performs other duties as may be assigned.

Job Requirements

Education, training, experience:
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License.
• Possession of I.C.C. certification, or ability to obtain within one year of employment.
• Two years technical and/or operational support experience involving public counter contact with emphasis in governmental work or customer service practices.
