Job description:
Summary:
Maintains and repairs property of municipality by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Include the following although other duties may be assigned.
Receives written work orders or verbal instructions from Crew Chief and completes written work orders for all jobs performed.
Subject to on-call.
Cuts grass, trims weeds, and picks up trash on City's property and parks.
Observes water plants and wastewater lift stations to ensure they are functioning properly and performs any related repairs or maintenance to the structures.
Engages in installation, maintenance, repairs, expansion, and relocation of water and sewer lines.
Will have extensive knoweledge of equipment such as a backhoe to dig trenches for water and sewer pipe, to repair leaks or cave-ins, or to install new pipe.
Repairs paved streets with asphalt, cold patch materials, and concrete; grades and fills holes on unpaved streets.
Reads water meters and records reading in logbook or computer.
Maintains and repairs municipal buildings' plumbing and electrical systems including replacement worn or defective parts such as switches and fuses.
Replaces worn or damaged parts such as hoses, wiring, and belts, in machines and equipment such as, but not limited to; truck, backhoe, and riding mower.
Repairs equipment such as pumps, compressors, lawn equipment, and other equipment used in repair and maintenance of water and sewer lines.
Assists in maintaining buildings and recreational areas in clean and orderly condition and empties trash cans.
Paints interior and exterior walls and trim of any City buildings or equipment.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience:
Minimum requirements include high school diploma or GED. Public Works experience preferred and the ability to learn how to operate a backhoe.
Language Skills: Must be able to speak the English language fluently.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Must have the ability to respond regularly and promptly to work during regular business hours; reasoning ability and common sense; skill in effectively planning work activities and utilizing resources; knowledge and ability to use a chainsaw and all lawn equipment; and the ability to deal tactfully with the sometimes hostile public.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Must have a valid Class "C" or above Texas Driver's License with a good driving record; Successful completion of a Class "D" Water or Unit 1 Wastewater Collection License within 1 year of employment and successful completion of a Class "C" Water or Unit 2 Wastewater Collection License within 2 years of employment. Ability and desire for continued personal and professional development to achieve higher levels of water and wastewater licenses.

Physical Demands:
Mobility which includes sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, vision, hearing, talking, writing, pushing, reaching above shoulder level, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Able to work in all weather conditions such as heat, cold, and rain.

Work Environment:
Noisy, distracting environment with a frequent change of tasks. Work is performed predominantly outside in all weather conditions. The work atmosphere demands multiple duties and involves maintaining open lines of communication and working closely with others as part of a team.
